Our friend Darling Stewie came up with a few Fandom 5 prompts of her own. Two of which inspired me so I decided to combine them. (Numbers 9 and 12 on her list to be exact.) So this is my list of 5 Harry Potter Characters I’d Like To Strangle (Or At Least Slap).
I wouldn’t necessarily want to strangle any of these folks to death. Their offenses aren’t quite that bad, but they all certainly need some type of punishment or wake up call.
1. Mundungus Fletcher
I know he was a useful contact for the Order when it came to getting information from the seedier side of things. Yet his thievery and cowardice cost the Order (and for that matter the Trio) an awful lot. He looted Grimmauld Place after Sirius died, fled during the Battle of the Seven Potters causing Moody’s death, and even though he had no clue what it truly was, he handed a Horcrux over to Dolores Umbridge. (NOTE: I’d have put Umbridge on this list, but I figure we can all agree she would be better suited for a great big kiss…from a Dementor. Then again that assumes she has a soul for them to feed on. Editor’s Note: OH SNAP!)
2. Cormac McLaggen
He’s handsome, athletic and even a bit charming. The problem is he knows it. Cormac is an arrogant tool that need to be knocked down a peg or two…or ten really. He’s the stereotypical frat boy jock and if you like that sort of thing more power to you. But it’s not my cup of tea. He pursued Hermione so hard while on their date she felt the need to hide from him (which is pretty alarming behavior) and his cocky attitude caused Gryffindor’s Quidditch team what could be it’s worse loss ever.
3. Marietta Edgecombe
The Hufflepuff in me expects people to remain loyal when they say they will. However, I also know not to be surprised if someone folds under pressure. Especially someone like Marietta. It was very clear she did not want to be at the D.A. meetings and I’m sure her reasons were valid. She was worried about her mom. I respect that, but if she was that concerned about it she should have stood up to Cho. All she had to do was not go. Then she wouldn’t have had any information to share and wouldn’t have been branded (literally) as a disloyal sneak.
4. Lavender Brown
Don’t get me wrong. She’s a teenage girl “in love” and I get it. Heck, I’ve been there. But if I was ANYTHING like her I’d like to formerly apologize now. I can only hope I wasn’t as shallow as she seems. I also hope that I wasn’t as rude to my boyfriends’ female friends as she is to Hermione.
5. Hagrid
I love Hagrid. I really do, but the man can’t handle his liquor. He gets a little too chatty when he has a few too many of those bucket-sized mugs of mead he’s so fond of. Add that to his penchant for keeping scary monsters as pets and I’d have to say I’m shocked Harry made it through his first year at Hogwarts. Heck, between mentioning Dumbledore and Flamel’s secret to a disguised Quirrell and sharing with him how to get past Fluffy the three-headed guard dog to hatching a baby dragon in his tiny wooden hut I’m actually surprised Hogwarts made it through Harry’s first year!
