Hi all! Lindsey here for this week’s #Fandom5. The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick gave the theme New Years Blogging Resolutions for Dec 26th. Since my contribution to Common Room is BodySpritBrain (BSB) my blogging resolutions for this week’s #Fandom5 will focus on overall BSB health.
1. Qualify for Boston with a Marathon Finishing Time of 03:35:00 or Less.
- Future Post on “How to Meet a PR (You Have Joined The Crazies Who Got Hooked To Racing).” I am running the Disney Marathon in January and it is a Boston Qualifier. My finishing time at my last marathon was 03:40:00 so I will also be aiming to beat my Personal Record (PR). The encouraging race administration at Disney predict I can run the race in 03:33:00 (They are sooo nice those Disney peeps!) My qualifying standard is 03:35:00 so I have been trying to train diligently and work in some speed training into my weekly runs, among other things. This will be an informative post including my personal advice on how to meet your PR.
2. Make my Own HOMEMADE Energy or Sport Supplements
- Future Post on “Yay or Nay to Homemade Supplements, Was this Worth It?” I have found a few recipes explaining how to make homemade supplements (i.e. Energy gels, energy bars, and Gatorade) so I want to try them out! I drink a lot of coconut water, use GU mid-long run, and eat a lot of energy bars to help get me through training. If I can enjoy a healthier, homemade version I am all for that. (I don’t mean to single out Gatorade products in my photo, that is all Target carried).
3. Reread Born to Run and Eat and Run Along with Other Books Good for the BodySpiritBrain.
- Future Post on some of “My Favorite Books for BodySpritBrain,” I am going to compile my personal list of go to books for a well rounded BSB.
4. Develop a Good Balance of Running with Strength Training and Yoga.
- Future Post on “The Benefits of Yoga (aka: How I Learned to Handstand Since I Didn’t Learn as a Child):” By the end of the year I want to be able to do a handstand and a full wheel pose with a leg in the air. Yoga is a good form of exercise to build flexibility and strength, both of which I need to work on. I can currently do a head stand and hold a wheel pose for 30 seconds with both legs on the floor! Wish me luck!!
5. Go One Month Caffeine-Free and One Month Alcohol-Free.
- Future Post on “Pros and Cons of Giving Up Coffee and Alcohol For a Month.” My husband and I are not heavy coffee/alcohol drinkers, but we definitely enjoy both. We drink one or two cups of coffee a day and usually only drink some wine or beer on the weekend and the occasional weekday. Regardless, I want to research the health benefits of cutting out both (during separate months) and see if I can tell or see a physical difference. My husband said he would attempt this with me (he’ll probably regret that)! This one will be difficult because I love curling up on the couch with my dogs and a hot cup of coffee while reading a book.
What are some of your resolutions?
