What’s Your Relationship with Makeup?

Join our discussion on makeup this week.

What is your relationship with makeup? When did you start wearing it? Do you wear it every day, only when you’re going to work, meeting friends, family, or at a special event?

What do you wear? A full face of foundation, just a bit of eyes, lips, or blush? How does it make you feel? Do you wear it to cover up or enhance?

Debbie Circle BG Label 3 darolfI think makeup is fun, but I can’t be bothered to do a lot every day, and I hate wearing foundation. Normally I always wear mascara (because I have blond eyelashes) and powder (because I have oily skin) and usually eyeliner and an eyebrow pencil. But that’s really it, if I’m feeling fancy I’ll do a smokey eye and a little lip color.

It’s more of that I can’t be bothered instead of disliking it. I also think it’s just way too expensive, so I try to limit my routine to 3-4 products. Whenever I feel like dressing up and wearing more makeup I always focus on my eyes because they’re my favorite feature and I like to play them up.

Also, I started wearing makeup every day my sophomore year of high school, around the time my skin got really bad. I specifically remember the first day I wore eyeshadow to school one of my guy friends was was very confused and finally asked “Did you do something different with your face?” I used to wear really heavy foundation, but now that I don’t need to I just use powder.

Estee Circle BG Label 2I honestly don’t remember when I started wearing it. But I wear a minimal amount (eyeliner, a bit of brow pencil, and tinted lip balm) to work. When I get more dressed up I add eye shadow and a hint of blush. I alway use a translucent powder, but I have yet to find a good match for foundation so I don’t use it.

I feel like I look younger when I wear it (I actually get carded once and awhile lol) and at 38 that’s a good thing. I use it to enhance especially my eyes. Since I don’t have eyelashes black eyeliner makes it at least look like I do. Lol.

Lydia Circle BG LabelI like makeup but don’t feel the need to wear it all the time. I usually wear it when I’m going out somewhere nice or for a special occasion.

I wear a light powder to even out skin tone, light blush unless I’m having an RA flare up and then none if so, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara. If I’m having a flare-up, my cheeks get really red so if I add any blush, I look crazy. Haha. :)

My eye makeup routine varies on where I’m going/how I’m feeling. And I primarily use it to enhance my eyes, which are my fav feature.

Margaux Circle BG LabelI do wear makeup every day when I go out (but if it’s a day in, I just don’t put anything on my face). I just like having makeup on, it makes me feel better.

I don’t put a lot, though, I’m bad at applying it so it’s very simple: it’s only eyeliner, mascara and a little bit of foundation (and if I feel like it, lipstick). I rarely change from that routine. I started wearing it when I was 15-16 I think.

Charee Circle BG Label 2I didn’t start wearing makeup until I was 23. My mom doesn’t wear a lot of makeup so I didn’t really know how to use it. I still don’t really know what in doing lol.

On a daily basis, I wear eyeshadow, natural tones, eye liner to enhance my eyes, mascara, and blush. When I go out, I use Mary Kay liquid foundation because it is very light. I also LOVE red lipstick. That’s my favorite accessory for a night out and I had to have it in my silhouette too! :)

Hadas Circle BG LabelNeither does mine! I had no idea what to do with makeup haha.
But did your sister?

Charee Circle BG LabelMy sister did, but she is 12 years older than me and didn’t live with us, nor did I see her very often :/ my friends did but it made me uncomfortable just thinking about makeup in high school. Not really sure why.

Hadas Circle BG LabelI never touched makeup or cared until I was in my early twenties when hormonal acne reared its VERY ugly head. I felt hideous and wore a lot of foundation incorrectly. Then when I was 25 I found out I had endometriosis and had surgery. After that and constant birth control my skin got super clear and I learned how to wear makeup better.

I like a bit of mascara, a lip color and if I’m feeling a bit dead or know I’ll be taking pictures I wear blush (which is just my lip stain balm :P).

Foundation is my favorite though because it instantly evens out my skin tone. Middle Easterners have hyperpigmentation so any little blemish turns into a brown spot that likes to stay on your skin for a while.

Larissa Circle BG LabelI started wearing it properly when I was about 20 I think. YouTube helped a lot. I’m pretty good at it now and I love it but I’m usually too lazy to put it on haha! I only wear it for special occasions now.

  • My bestie is all about makeup, as are my work besties. They will just go on and on about different types of makeup, and I’ll go shopping with them at Ulta or Sephora and fawn over the pretty packaging with them…but when it comes to everyday life, I’m super lazy about makeup. I don’t do too much beyond mascara and blush for everyday. If something special is happening, that’s different, but getting up early to put on makeup is just not my jam!

    • Pretty packaging gets me too. That’s why I can’t walk into Korean shops in the city. Everything looks so pampering!
