November: Kaleida, Monarchy, + My Two Cents on Apple Music

If you’ve kept an eye on music in the past weeks you probably noticed the Apple Music boss Jimmy Iovine claiming that “women find it very difficult at times—some women—to find music.” Mr. Apple Music then went on to explain that they need “playlists curated by real people” to find new music because “not everyone has the right list or knows a DJ or something.” (Source)

Well don’t worry fellow women, you know me and I will be your personal DJ! I hope I’m doing this right…

Seriously now though, finding new music is a circle. I find music on curated playlists and pass them on into my own lists. My recent favourites for new music have been the superbly curated and regularly refreshed The Sound Of Indietronica and Lush & Atmospheric playlists, the latter of which pretty much sums up my current taste in its description:

Deep, heavy, indie, electric – A lush collection of melodic, fluttering, glitchy, electroacoustic bliss.

Here are my picks for November, found on these lists:

Kaleida – Detune
A dark, sparse, hypnotising, beat-driven song that gives me goosebumps. The first song to play on my Spotify when I was back at work after 4 weeks. I find it perfect to work to because it keeps me calm and gets me into the zone.

Monarchy – The Phoenix Alive
This one sounds super 80s and space-y but modern at the same time. I don’t really like music actually from the 80s (I’m still trying to figure out why…maybe I prefer modern production values?) but this is just perfect.

How do you find new music?
