Movie Trailers + Marketing: Captain America: Civil War

Okay, so the 2nd trailer for Captain America: Civil War just arrived and I’m feeling confused. Let me describe what we know as facts, my theories, and why the marketing is weird. Watch it below and then read on!

What We Know:

Cap and Tony are fighting.

Cap wants to be able to jump in and help when he can. Tony wants more structure. (Now that’s a twist right?)

On Cap’s team: Hawkeye, Falcon, Bucky aka Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, and Scarlet Witch.

On Tony’s team: Vision, Black Widow, War Machine, and Spider-Man.

There is some talk of a registry of special peeps like the Avengers and friends.

The Marketing:

The title is Captain America: Civil War, NOT The Avengers: Civil War or even Iron Man: Civil War. So we know Cap is at the center or is meant to be. Yet…

The trailer released on 3/10/16 seems to slant towards Tony being right and Cap being indulgent. Tony is also hurting badly. I can’t wrap my head around how I feel about this.

Why I’m Confused

Is this a red herring? Are we supposed to think that Cap is pushing further than Tony and really doing things he shouldn’t be that are destructive to many? But it is actually the opposite?

Or is this incredibly balanced but only seems slanted at the moment?

The biggest benefit to the marketing’s ambiguity is that it isn’t ruining the film for us. (Yes, it appears someone has died, but would they really show us that so explicitly and repeatedly?)

This is going to be an incredible movie. My favorite movie in the MCU has been Captain America: Winter Soldier and I have high expectations for the rest of the Cap films.

Chadwick Boseman Plays Black Panther.

This may be him as a civilian, T’Challa.

Crossbones played by Frank Grillo.

Tom Holland is the new Spider-Man. His suit is pretty nifty. He’s got the mechanical web shooters like the last reboot, and more importantly, his eyes move!
