Fang, Hedwig, Flounder, Meeko, Rajah, Maximus, Sven….There are just too many amazing fictional pets to choose from for this week’s #Fandom5 Friday.
This week’s #5fandomfriday prompt asks, “Which fictional pets would I adopt?” Ummm, I will take all the pets. This is a very difficult #Fandom5 (Thanks Sara Richey, Super Space Chick, and The Nerdy Girlie). If I HAD to choose these would be my top 5 choices.
1) Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon
I LOVE DRAGONS! If a book, TV show, or movie has some sort of dragon I am immediately interested (for #PotterWeek I pondered why Voldemort didn’t use dragons in his pursuit of power). Imagine my excitement when How To Train Your Dragon hit theaters! I am obsessed with Toothless. I almost adopted a black cat and named him Toothless. He reminds me of my rescue pup Percy. He was a little misunderstood and needed the right owner/trainer/life friend to enrich his life. Quite frankly, we tend to depend on the animals we adopt just as much, if not more.
2) Stich from Lilo & Stich
Stich is such an adorable, trouble maker. He was also a little misunderstood and the love of a little girl provided the rescue he truly needed.
3) Pascal from Tangled
Oh, Pascal, you wonderful little lizard. Pascal is such a punk. He will humor Rapunzel by wearing pink dresses and play hide and seek. All the while he will guard and protect her with ferocity. Heck, why don’t we think of lizards as tiny dragons?
4) Flit from Pocahontas
Flit is another fictional pet who is tiny yet fierce. Don’t mess with his Native American Princess or you will know the wrath of his beak! Thank goodness he has Meeko to balance him out a little.
5) Pantalaimon from The Golden Compass
If you are new to The Golden Compass a dæmon (ˈdiːmən) is a type of fictional being in the Philip Pullman fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials. Dæmons are the external physical manifestation of a person’s ‘inner-self’. They take the form of animals who are highly intelligent and capable of speech. How cool is that?! I continue to reread and enjoy His Dark Materials while dreaming of having my very own dæmon.
I am going to take this opportunity to throw in a plug for pet adoption. Here are my two real-life adopted pets. AJ (the papillon) came with my husband so he is not technically a rescue but entering into a serious relationship I had to also be 100% on board with adopting him into my life and heart. We got Percy (the Jack Russell Mutt) as soon as we were in a position to take on a second dog. Percy came from an abusive home and his prior owners didn’t know he was born deaf. He comes with some special needs and consideration, but he was the absolute BEST decision we have ever made together. Plus, AJ really loves having a brother. I ask you to consider adoption if you are looking to add a fur baby to your family. We found Percy at adoptapet!
