For Cloud Nine this month I thought we could talk about Summertime hair care tips. Our very first F3 (Food, Fitness, Fashion) episode talked about some of our team’s favorite shampoos and conditioners.
Summer is here and that means fun in the sun, but all that Summer fun can wreak havoc on your hair. So here are a few tips to keep your locks lovely over the Summer months:
1. Sunscreen
Sunlight will drain the color from both dyed and natural hair in unpredictable ways. It could cause subtle yet pretty highlights or a harsh brassy flat look. If you aren’t willing to take the gamble, a wide-brimmed hat is your best most fashionable bet. However if hats aren’t your style you can get a bit of UV protection by simply running your hands through your hair once you’ve put sunscreen on the rest of your body.
2. Anti-frizz
If at all possible, put down the flat iron, curling iron and blow dryer. These tools roughen the cuticles of your hair allowing humidity to cause frizz. If you just can’t live without your styling tools try a silicone based smoothing serum. The silicone helps temporarily create a protective barrier that aids in keeping hair frizz-free.
3. Conditioner
Even if your hair is already soft, conditioner will help protect it by locking in moisture that the sun, chlorine and salt water can strip away. For a bit of added protection when you’re planning a trip to the pool or the beach run a light coating of your conditioner through your hair, but don’t rinse it. Using conditioner on a regular basis will also help combat frizz and color fading as well as protect the overall health of your hair.
