#Fairytalerc Review: Splintered by A.G. Howard

This is my first ever book review and I’ve decided to go with a non-standard format. I don’t want to do reviews that just rehash the better part of the story and make reading the book pointless. So I hope you enjoy my not so regular reviews.

First up: Splintered by A.G. Howard.

How I Came to Find this Book:

My Twitter pal “La La” who writes the blog LA LA in the LIBRARY is a huge fan of the series and tweeted about it so much I just had to buy it from Amazon. (I’m a Kindle user.)

My Rating:

I give it four smiley faces. I really like it a lot.

rating smiles 4 great

What’s the Story About?:

This is a modern-day reboot of the Alice in Wonderland story. It focuses on Alice Liddell’s descendant, Alyssa and her quest to correct the curse Alice placed on the Liddell women.

Book Review Favorites CharactersMy Favorite Thing About this Book:

MAGIC! I am a sucker for stories that have a character that has magical powers. This story is loaded with magical characters, some of which are fairy-like. Fairies are another thing I’m a sucker for.

My Least Favorite Thing About This Book:

Some of the creatures conjure some rather creepy mental images. While that is an excellent commendation to Howard’s writing it still gives me the heebee jeebees. Many of the beings described are different parts of different animals or insects mashed together.

My Favorite Character and Why:

I love Jeb, Alyssa’s long time crush. On the surface, he seems like a bit of a bad boy but Alyssa knows him well enough to know he’s a sweet sensitive guy with a heart of gold. He would do anything for her and what girl wouldn’t want a guy like that?

My Least Favorite Character and Why:

I can’t stand Queen Red. Granted this is an obvious choice considering she’s the villain, but it’s hard not to hate her. She is not around for the first half or so of the book but once she shows up she proves to be pure evil.

My Favorite Quote:

“Tearing down the rest of the world won’t make you happy. Look inside yourself. Because finding who you were meant to be? What you were put into this world to do? That’s what fills the emptiness.”

I hope you enjoyed my first ever book review as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
