Natural Ways to Beat The Blues

For this month’s Cloud Nine let’s talk about Natural Ways to Beat the Blues.

Every now and then we all end up feeling a bit bummed out for one reason or another. Whatever the reason may be there are natural and healthy ways to boost your mood.

 1. Change Your Diet

Certain foods are said to help improve your mood. Foods like berries, bananas, and even sweet potatoes are a great sweet snack when you’re feeling down. The natural sugars and various nutrients cause the body to release the different “feel good” chemicals your brain produces, therefore improving your mood. If you’re looking for more of a meal, lean proteins like fish, chicken, and turkey have similar effects.

2. Exercise

Sometimes all you need to make yourself feel a bit better is to get moving. You don’t have to do some high impact heavy duty workout, just get your body moving! Exercise regulates some of the chemicals and hormones that help keep your mood regulated. Adding a little exercise can “rewire” your brain in very positive ways.    3. Get Some Sun

Low Vitamin D levels are known to have a negative effect on a person’s mood. Exposure to the sun helps boost your body’s levels of Vitamin D which in turn helps bring you out of the dumps.

4. Reach out

You may not feel much like being around other people when you’re feeling down, but reaching out to a good friend or close family member can make all the difference in the world. You don’t even have to talk about what’s bothering you. Sometimes just having some positive social interaction can make you feel better. If you suspect your doldrums are more than just a simple case of the blues you should reach out to a doctor or a therapist. It’s OK to ask for help if you need it.
