Alejandro Montoya Marin is someone I’ve been hearing about for quite a while. I’ve been lucky enough to see many of his shorts (including the first version of Monday) and am so excited he was handpicked by Robert Rodriguez to take part in the show Rebel Without a Crew.

Rebel Without a Crew is a show featuring five up and coming filmmakers. Each filmmaker gets a budget of $7,000 to make a feature film. The idea came from Robert Rodriguez’s hit film, El Mariachi. In 1992 all he had was 7K when he made the film. Googling has told me that this amount was not adjusted for inflation, so the challenge was even greater.

Robert Rodriguez hand picked Alejandro Montoya Marin to participate in his show Rebel Without A Crew.

Director Robert Rodriguez, VP of El Rey Network Cecilia Cotti, and Alejandro Montoya Marin.

The show is now on the El Rey network and Alejandro’s film, Monday is touring the country at festivals. If you’re a film buff, definitely checkout the show. And if you’re in the mood for a fun and funny action comedy, def watch the film when it premieres on El Rey and VOD in February 2019.

On January 6, there will be a mini-marathon of the current episodes. Head here to find out where you can watch. Share a login with a friend… that’s what I’m doing!

Alejandro and I chatted about Monday, the RWaC show, movies in general, growing up with pop culture, and more. It was a blast. I can’t wait to chat with again and am excited for all of his future projects.
