A Look at Next Season

Last week was full of excitement as the up fronts brought celebrities galore to NYC and the networks officially announced next years’ new series and schedules. I finally had a chance to go through the new trailers that have been released and found some things to be excited about and others that I couldn’t help but wonder how they were ever green lighted.

What I’m Most Excited for-

The Whispers (ABC)

From the look of this video, Steven Spielberg’s newest series about an alien invasion carried out by using children, will not disappoint the way Terra Nova did. Of all the series that are scheduled for next year, The Whispers looks to be the creepiest of them all. To be expected, when children are involved in mysterious deaths.

Selfie (ABC)

I’ll be honest, the plot–a self-centered woman who spends more time on social media than in real life–has nothing to do with my excitement for this series. (“Selfie” is my number one least favorite word of all time.) That honor is reserved exclusively for Karen Gillan of Doctor Who awesomeness. Eliza Dooley is no Amelia Pond, but I’m willing to come along anyway.

How to Get Away with Murder (ABC)

Shonda Rhimes has officially taken over Thursday nights on ABC. This series, about a law school professor and her students who get stuck entangled in a murder case, looks like it will have just the right mix of drama, intrigue, and sex that we’ve come to expect from her.

Marry Me (NBC)

Like with Selfie, the most exciting element for me of this has nothing to do with the plot, about a longtime couple that finds a whole host of new issues after getting engaged. I’m excited because it is from David Caspe who brought us Happy Endings, and stars Casey Wilson.

Wayward Pines (Fox)

Take Stepford Wives and mix it with typical TV mystery fare and you have this new “event series” by Fox. Based on the novel Pines by Blake Crouch, the series follows a secret service agent investigating the disappearance of two federal agents. The cast is jam-packed with big names—Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, and Juliette Lewis (who is also starring in next season’s Secrets and Lies), to name a few. This is an M. Night Shyamalan production, so expect twists galore.

Gotham (Fox)

Is anyone who enjoys comic book fare not excited for this show? The trailer is exciting and dark (literally) and we will be getting a whole new look at the Batman mythos.

Flash (CW)

Grant Gustin (you probably know him best as the incredibly obnoxious Sebastian on Glee) is extremely likable as Barry Allen on this pseudo-spinoff of Arrow. The trailer hints at something truly devastating in the Flash’s history, which adds another level of intrigue to the story. I just hope we see more Barry and Felicity (aka more Arrow crossover episodes).
