2014 was full of amazing movies, and 2015 will be filled with even more awesomeness! Here’s my selection of my 20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015, in no particular order!
Avengers II: Age of Ultron
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Marvel’s comics, and it’s also no secret that Joss Whedon is one of my favourite directors, so naturally I’m more than pumped about Avengers II: Age of Ultron. In April, the Avengers are back and judging from what we’ve seen so far, they look even more awesome! Elizabeth Olsen & Aaron Taylor Johnson are joining the team as Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver) to help the Avengers in their quest to defeat Ultron. It’s so close I can almost see it!
Directed by Joss Whedon. May 1st.
Ant-Man
Speaking of Marvel, another adaptation is set to come out this year, and it’s Ant-Man! For those who have no idea who he is, he was one of the founding members of the Avengers, but as Henry Pym (his older self is portrayed by Michael Douglas). In Ant-Man, we’ll be following his successor, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a con-man who is going to help Pym protect the secret of his suit and, as usual, save the world. I am ecstatic about this adaptation, I’ve always loved Ant-Man, the cast is amazing, and I’m quite happy that Marvel is adapting comics that are very little known amongst Marvel films fans. I don’t want to spoil myself on the movie too much, because that way I’ll enjoy it even more, since it’s coming at a later date than the Avengers, I’m really hoping for Lang to make a cameo in Avengers II: Age of Ultron (after all, it’s Pym who created Ultron). In the last scene maybe? We’ll find out soon enough!
Directed by Peyton Reed. July 17th.
Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens
10 years after we thought we’d seen the last of Star Wars, it comes back! The first part of the new trilogy of J.J Abrams, Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, is set to come out a the end of the year. It’s obviously one of the most awaited movies of 2015, and I cannot wait to return to this universe. We don’t quite know yet what’s going to happen, but the trailer looks promising! I was sceptical about the return of Star Wars, but if there’s one person that can do justice to this universe it’s J.J Abrams, so knowing it’s in good hands is a plus. The cast is well balanced, between newcomers and well-known actors -I screamed when I learned Dohmnall Gleeson was gonna be in it. So the only thing left to do is wait as we’re still in the dark… side of the force.
Directed by J.J. Abrams. December 18th.
Crimson Peak
Guillermo Del Toro is back with Crimson Peak, a gothic horror movie about a writer named Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) who after a familial tragedy is going to live in Crimson Peak, a strange house with almost human emotions. Ok, that doesn’t really give away too much, but it looks very intriguing! I’ll basically see anything from Guillermo Del Toro and his very special world. Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam are part of the cast, and it looks very favorable so far! A trailer is yet to be released.
Directed by Guillermo Del Toro. October 16th.
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Let’s start the year with a bang! In a couple of weeks, we’ll be able to discover the new Matthew Vaughn film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Mark Strong and Colin Firth. Harry Hart (Firth), a former secret agent for the UK government acquires a young apprentice (Taron Egerton) and inducts him into a very secret organisation. Vaughn is a genius and his style is amazing, so I don’t doubt that it will be great. Kingsman is also a graphic novel, and we all know that Vaughn is amazing when it comes to adapting Graphic Novels (I went to see Kick-Ass 8 times when it came out, if that can give you an idea of how brilliant I think he is). It’ll be a great start for the New Year!
Directed by Matthew Vaughn. February 13th.
Inside Out
Pixar is never out of original and fun ideas, and with Inside Out, their latest animation film, they prove it once more. We follow a little girl named Riley in her daily life, but her story is told from the perspective of the emotions that are inside her mind. How cool does that sound? The trailer is amazing, and a little more of Amy Poehler and Bill Hader’s voices couldn’t hurt anyone. I’m sure it will be an instant hit worldwide, and it’s surely another great addition to the animation movie world.
Directed by Pete Docter & Ronaldo Del Carmen. June 19th.
Pitch Perfect 2
They’re back Pitches! Elizabeth Banks tackles the second Pitch Perfect, bringing our favourite acapella group into an international contest America never won. This year, Hailee Steinfeld and Katey Sagal are joining the cast, and we’ll rediscover the Barden Bellas, with Anna Kendrick at their head. Sequels of huge hits can be tricky, and I’m a little bit afraid I’ll be disappointed by Pitch Perfect 2. I hope it’s going to be just as good as the first one, and the trailer seems to point in that direction.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks. May 15th.
Home
An alien race, the Boov, invade Earth in the hopes of making it their new home. While relocating the human race, one girl named Tip (Rihanna) escapes and finds herself travelling with a banned Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons). The latest Dreamworks Animation movie Home seems funny and touching. I’m just as excited about this one that I am for Inside Out. Dreamworks being my favourite animation studio, I know I’m not going to be disappointed!
Directed by Tim Johnson. March 27th.
Trainwreck
We don’t quite know what Trainwreck will be about, but Judd Apatow is back with a movie written by funny lady Amy Schumer. Bill Hader, Daniel Radcliffe, Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, Ezra Miller and Vanessa Bayer are all featured in Apatow’s comedy. I feel like this project is filled with an unlikely group of actors coming together for a film, and it’s awesome! Even if sometimes Apatow’s movies are not my favourites, the potential behind Trainwreck is huge and I can’t wait to find out more about it.
Directed by Judd Apatow. July 17th.
Sisters
This is not a drill, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are going to play each other’s sisters in Sisters this year. After learning their parents decided to sell their old family house, two sisters decided to throw one last party. It is impossible to not be excited about this. Santino Fontana (Frozen), John Leguizamo, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon and James Brolin are all included in the cast, and I cannot wait to see what kind of characters they’re going to portray. Definitely looking forward to seeing it!
Directed By Jason Moore. December 18th.
